Access for All: Vikara Village’s Unique Pricing Model

Vikara Village's vision is to build more resilient citizens. To us, this means helping individuals access resources to improve their wellness. Through our yoga and movement classes, we are empowering individuals to reach their full potential. When you have a healthy sense of self, you are better able to work towards the common good.

The pricing model we use makes wellness more accessible to everybody. As we work towards becoming an anti-racist, inclusive, and compassionate organization, we know it is important to be transparent and authentic about our pricing model. It's important to us that wellness be available to all, by offering accessible pricing. This year is filled with a lot of emotional trauma and stress, which is why we are offering a place of peace and comfort to anyone who needs it at this time.

At Vikara Village, we offer a sliding fee scale for our programs. Our pricing is offered with three different tiers:

  • Pay It Forward - for those who are able to help support others in our programs.
  • Standard - simply the set price of the program.
  • Community - for those facing financial or other hardships.

Economic justice is an important aspect of our decision to create this pricing model. We follow these 3 principles:

  • Participative Justice: each of our "input" to the economic process to earn a living, such as going to work and owning capital;
  • Distributive Justice: is the "output" that our economic system matches to each person's participation, through income received from labor;
  • Social Justice: guides the principles of restoring a just and equitable order for everyone.

By following these principles, we hope to create an environment and community in which we can support each person's needs. One's contribution to the economic process allows us to generate a model that matches each individual's needs, and allows us to create an equitable distribution for everyone.

We have built a supportive system giving everyone a fair opportunity to join our community. For each program, there are limited scholarships available with more information provided in the program details.

The sliding fee scale model was chosen because it reflects Vikara Village's values of community, empowerment, and trust. We want to make sure we put the needs of our community first. We hope we are able to capture all the different needs of our community through this unique pricing structure. Hannah Davis, the Executive Director of Vikara Village, explains the pricing model as an "accessible way for people to invest at a level that is appropriate for them."

We strive to ensure justice for everyone, while elevating each person's dignity and sovereignty. We work to achieve the highest aim of justice as defined by the Center for Economic and Social Justice: "to elevate each person to where he does not need charity, but can afford to become charitable himself."
